The Chinese Chemical Society, in conjunction with the Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, organizes "Chemistry@Everywhere" themed popular science activity

May 19, 2025

On May 18, 2025, the "Chemistry@Everywhere" themed popular science activity of the Chinese Chemical Society came to the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICCAS), jointly creating a Public Science Day in the chemical world. With the theme of "Initiating a New Journey for the Future with Scientific Inquiries - Chemistry@Everywhere", the activity attracted more than 1,000 members of the public and teenagers to participate.

Prof. Qing-Hua Fan, Vice President and Secretary General of the Chinese Chemical Society, officially unveiled "Chemi", the CCS’s science popularization mascot, and announced the winners of the first season of the CCS’s "Chemistry@Everywhere" themed science popularization essay competition.

As part of the event, graduate student representatives from the ICCAS, performed a lively science-themed skit titled "Molecular Tailors - The Story of Nylon" to the public.

Prof. Guoqiang Yang, a Professor at ICCAS, delivered a lecture entitled "Colorful World Under Light - Photochemistry and Our Life". Starting from the photochemical phenomena in daily life, Prof. Yang revealed the luminescent principles behind these phenomena and combined with his own research achievements, explained the important role of photochemistry in our daily lives. Prof. Yang's captivating lecture earned enthusiastic applause from the students, who eagerly posed questions such as "When will China develop a high-end lithography machine?" "Can photochemistry be used to solve the problem of microplastics entering the human body?" "Can photochemistry be used to let dogs see a colorful world?" Prof. Yang patiently answered each question, sharing his professional insights and sparking further curiosity among the students.

Another highlight of the day was the "Chemical Dream Factory" activity, where researchers and students from the ICCAS brought 13 cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements and well-designed chemical experiments to the public. Through visits and interactions, the public have personally experienced the wonders of chemical reactions and felt the charm of chemistry.
