On April 6, 2024, the launch event of the 9th Young Elite Scientist Sponsorship Program (YESS) took place in Hefei, China. The gathering welcomed 30 attendees, including Qinghua Fan, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS), as well as academic mentors Chunying Chen, Lifeng Chi, Jinghong Li, Shuhong Yu, and selected talents and young scientist mentors of the 9th YESS. The session was co-hosted by Yanglong Hou, Deputy Secretary-General of the CCS, and Shutao Wang, Director of the Young Chemists Committee of the CCS.

Throughout the meeting, selected talents from the 9th YESS delivered presentations on the progress of their research and outlined their plans. Academic mentors and young scientist mentors provided feedback and guidance on the presentations, addressing specific research challenges and directions. They also shared valuable insights and experiences in scientific research, stressing the importance of aligning research pursuits with personal interests and strengths, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and maintaining resilience and patience in scientific pursuits. Additionally, they encouraged active participation in academic exchange activities and utilization of the society's resources to enhance research capabilities.
