2024 IUPAC Global Women’s Breakfast in China

On the morning of February 27, the Women in Chemistry Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) organized the 2024 Global Women’s Breakfast event in seven cities including Beijing, Changchun, Lanzhou, Wuxi, Suzhou, Shanghai, and Hong Kong, with interactive video connections to celebrate this global event. The theme of the event was “Catalyzing Diversity in Science”. The opening ceremony was attended and addressed by Shuai Zhigang, Executive Board Member of IUPAC and Vice President of the CCS; Ma Guanghui, Deputy Director of the Women in Chemistry Committee; Fan Qinghua, Vice President and Secretary General of the CCS; and Chen Yongjun, former Deputy Director of the Interdisciplinary Science Department of the National Science Foundation of China.

"City Connection" segment during the 2024 Global Women’s Breakfast

In the following "City Connection" segment, each of the seven host cities introduced the organization and attendees of their respective breakfast meetings and engaged in interactive exchanges with representatives from other venues. This segment was hosted by Dong Huanli, Secretary-General of the Women in Chemistry Committee.

After the “City Connection” segment, the seven host cities separately organized offline events, including theme discussion, keynote speeches, high-level dialogues, etc. The content revolves around topics such as “strengthening scientific cross-disciplinary diversity and promoting interdisciplinary communication”, “enhancing the research resilience of female chemists, maintaining research enthusiasm and resilience”, “the growth and development of female chemists”, and “the advantages and breakthroughs of female leadership in a diverse society”.
